In 2011, "Villa Lante" at Bagnaia was voted "Italy's Most Beautiful Park". Construction began in 1511, commissioned by Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola and was purchased 100 years later by Ippolito Lante Montefeltro della Rovere, Duke of Bomarzo. Bagnaia is located along a Roman road through the Cimini Mountains, part of the Via Francigena. Villa Lante consists of two casinos, almost identical, each having a ground floor with arcades and loggias. But the gardens, water features, from waterfalls to fountains to dripping grottos, are the real surprise of this magical villa.
