Villa Aldobrandini (also known as Villa Belvedere) is one of the most important villas near Rome. It stands on a panoramic hill overlooking the plain of Rome and the monumental eighteenth century entrance overlooks the main square of Frascati. It has a centuries-long history divided between important families and the papacy. It was built by Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini, nephew of Pope Clement VIII on an existing building in 1550. It has very valuable Baroque gardens with the Water Theatre at the back of the villa that recalls the style of that century. Here in 1668, the world premiere was performed of Il Circe by Alessandro Stradella.
