At one time this building housed the Hospital of Mercy, managed by the brothers of the Pio Sodalizio who assisted the poor and cared for the many became ill during the journey to Rome at the time when Rignano was crossed by many pilgrims who came to Rome to see the tomb of Peter. This building was started in the first half of the fourteenth century and in its interior is the Chapel of St. Nicholas (the patron saint of wayfarers) with fourteenth-century frescoes. In front of the palace stands a majestic pine from the early twentieth century, planted in memory of a girl who died in this square when it was used for public limestone processing to make cement.
