The castle is divided into two parts: the higher is a fortress with a square tower and one polygonal; the lower is a third party keep, attached to the main building by a rampart walk. This tower is called "Crocodile" because, according to tradition, into it were thrown those condemned to death that they could become a meal for a wild animal. The castle is completed by a set of smaller cylindrical towers that enclose a small parade ground. Today, the castle is the scene of events, film festivals, shows and exhibitions. For lovers of philately, the castle was immortalized in a famous 750 lire stamp.
