On top of the hill it is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Valley del Salto. The site is enclosed by a stretch of the fourth century BC cyclopean walls that surround the area of the Acropolis with the sacred temple of Nersia, the capital of the "Res publica Aequiculorum" (people of the Equi) of which Virgil speaks in the Aeneid .
