The 'Mansio to Vacanas' is a roman post station (mansio) along the Via Cassia built in the first century AD. It was composed of an area for rest for the traveller (spas and shops), an area where he can rest his horses (stables and repacements), an area used for public activities (barracks of the soldiers, the market square, portico with fountain). It lost its Roman splendour during the Middle Ages and was robbed of all the marble tiles but continued to be a resting place for pilgrims along the Via Francigena.
