Energitismo Insight

The castle derives its name from George Maniace, the Byzantine general who in 1038 recaptured the city from the hands of the Arabs. It was one of the most important monuments of the Swabian period in Syracuse and one of the most beautiful castles of Frederick II. It is a massive quadrilateral structure of severe aspect by virtue of its defensive purposes and at the four corners of the building cylindrical towers are harmoniously inserted in the walls.
