Energitismo Insight

Anna Maria Tondello found Energitismo and introduced us through her works to her joyful depth of understanding of Iconography, a unique art form. Nowadays masters replicate the great works of the original masters, but each work is different. Every icon shows the soul of the artist through the nuances of colours and shades in each painting and each gives different feelings to us.
Becoming a master is a long trip through art and old technology: it takes 10 years of practice and study before starting to show icons. The discipline in icon painting starts with the selection of the rovere slats, the creation of the base timber, bonding of natural linen cloth, preparation of the surface for painting, deposition of the gold leaf and only then the many stages of painting, altogether nearly 20 steps that require exact attention to detail to create the near-perfect icon painting. The materials used are all natural.
The colours are achieved using traditional pigments and ‘oils’. The artist needs great understanding of her materials as every hue of each colour has a special meaning and, for the devotee, a great beauty and link to the religious significance.

ANNAMARIA E MARIANGELA TONDELLO

Anna Maria fell in love with icon painting when she was 20 and she saw a postcard. She followed her growing passion to Milan where she studied under a master. Mariangela Tondello is a master of the preparation of the gold leaf

Mariangela followed her sister soon afterwards and they create together: one is responsible for the traditional base and one for the paintings. To learn the ancient technique they attended courses with Russian masters and visited orthodox monasteries that conserve the artisanal secret of wood and colors technique. Anna Maria is now a master and her Icons reflect her soul and communicate her peace and harmony.

Bassano del Grappa was renamed from Bassano Veneto, after the first world war, to commemorate the battles on Mount Grappa above the town. It is famous for creating Grappa and for the Palladio covered wooden bridge, often destroyed, but lovingly re-built. Bassano and its river Brenta connect the mountains to Venice 80 km south east.
