The Historical Museum of the Air Force is located in Vigna di Valle, where in 1908 the first Italian military airship was built and flown inaugurating the Bracciano-Vigna di Valle Airport, the oldest Italian airport infrastructure. The museum was opened in 1977 and is run by the Air Force in the spaces that hosted the Experimental Aviation Centre for seaplanes and naval armament, a department for Maritime Fighters and finally a squadron of rescue planes. The museum houses important collections of photographic equipment, radio equipment, weapons, and on-board equipment. You can admire numerous objects and relics related to aeronautics, many from private collections. One section is devoted to the influence of aviation in figurative art with works of futurism and contemporary painting. Among the activities highlighted are those relating to the recovery and restoration of historical aircraft.
