In "The Marmot" a Neolithic village was discovered dating from about 8,000 years ago, now submerged by the waters of the lake. The underwater excavations resulted in the recovery of important artefacts, including in particular five pirogue boats. One of them can be seen at the National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography Luigi Pigorini. Another, 9.50 meters long and originally broken into two parts, was found July 31, 2005 at 12 meters deep, it is now preserved in a glass case containing substances suitable for the preservation, at the Neolithic Exhibition Centre Anguillara, where it is possible to view. The Centre is located near the railway station, in via Anguillarese.
