The Ducal Palace was the seat of the Doge and is a masterpiece of Gothic Venetian architecture and is the first view of Venice for those coming from the sea. The style of Venice is inspired by Byzantine and European architecture. It is unique and recognizable throughout the Veneto and Adriatic coasts. The interior, although partly privatised of the works that decorated them, still retains a large art gallery including paintings by Tintoretto (Jacopo and Domenico), Tiziano Vecellio, Francesco Bassano, Paolo Veronese. Here is the ancient seat of the Doge and the Venetian courts, where you would find the city's political life. Today it houses the Museum of Palazzo Ducale visited each year by millions of people.
