It is the most representative monument of Paliano and is still used, but for the past 150 years as a special prison. It was built in the second half of the sixteenth century, according to the city planning rules of military architecture. Managed by the Colonna family, it has done its job of overseeing and controlling activities in the area south of to the east of Rome, until the arrival of Napoleon's troops.
