The church was built in 1610 on the remains of a small Franciscan church and remodelled in 1782 by Pope Clement XIV. The church consists of a single nave and is faced with a high baroque façade of double Ionic order with a single central port door inserted in it and a wide entrance staircase. Seriously damaged by the bombings of World War II it was completely restored in 1950.
