Brancaccio Castle, its crenellated tower, and the mighty bastion are the symbol of the town and have marked its history. The first building dates back to the tenth century and is built around a pentagonal courtyard. It had been repeatedly looted and destroyed by the Orsini and the Farnese, only to be rebuilt over the centuries by the Colonna. At the end of the fifteenth century, the Colonna expanded the castle creating large halls to be used for the hearings "at the palace." The castle is accessed through a Gothic portal.
