Energitismo Insight

The Basilica with Cathedral houses the relics of Santa Salome, the mother of the apostles James the Greater and John the Evangelist and protector of the city. Begun in 1209 it was later destroyed by an earthquake in 1350 and rebuilt in the 1700s by two Tuscan bishops, who called to Veroli many painters to paint the interior walls of the church. The church is home to the Scala Santa, built at the behest of Pope Benedict XIV, which offers the same privileges as that of Rome: the faithful that come on their knees are granted a plenary indulgence.
