It is the most famous part of the headland even though it was not discovered until 24 February 1939 when Mr Guattari removed a landslide that had blocked the entrance. Here he found over six hundred animal bones and Mr Guattari immediately called Professor Blanc. When he entered the cave he discovered a skull of the Neanderthal period lying on the ground surrounded by a ring of stones. The professor noticed that it had two wounds, one on his right temple, certainly the blow that killed the man, and another at the base of the skull.
