Frasso Sabino is located on a hill on the left bank of the river Farfa. Its name comes from the abundance of tree ash that once surrounded the town. Other sources would take the name from the Latin "fraxum", the guard post, or by the thunderous sound of the Farfa river cascades, which flow "between the stones." The town dates back to the Middle Ages and originally had belonged to the Abbey of Farfa since the end of the tenth century. The first mention of the village is the 955 on "Regestum Farfense". The castle passed into the hands of Brancaleoni family home and then to the Cesarini. In the seventeenth century it became property of the Sforza Cesarini. The castle then passed to the Apostolic Chamber and then to the Papal State.
