Serrone owes its name to 'serroni' i.e. the steep slopes of the Lepini mountains. It is a place more of military posts and monasteries than for social life. It seems that here the righteous San Benedetto built the cloister dedicated to 'San Michele Arcangelo' in 600 and retired in contemplation with three crows under the mountain. On a rock is visible a hand print that could belong to the saint. Even the church of San Quirico has a mysterious origin story because it was deconsecrated in 1650 due to a unspeakable act and only later was again returned to the religious orders. It is the best place to experience the thrill of flying by paragliding or hang-gliding from Mount Scalambra starting with a jump from three different heights.
