Micigliano is located in the upper valley of the Velino. There is not much information about its history. Certainly the history of the village is closely linked to the events of the Abbey of San Quirico and Giuditta. The first documented existence of Micigliano back to the middle of the tenth century are found in the registers of the Abbey of Farfa. In the tenth century, the town became the core of the fiefdom of the Abbey of San Quirico and Julietta, built by the Benedictines in the same century. This pro-imperial abbey was so important that in 1229 Frederick II occupied the territories to put them under his control. Certainly in the fourteenth century Micigliano existed as a fortified town in which there was a parish church. Later the village followed the same fate of neighbouring towns, ending up in the orbit of the Orsini and Colonna families, until it was taken by the Kingdom of Naples.
