Probably the city was formed where a town known as "Labicum" already existed although this has not been verified. It benefited from being close to the Via Casilina, also called Via Latina. Where there was the ancient post that has become Palazzo Giuliani today. It is first mentioned in a document of 715 DC as 'Fundus Longeianus' and they started to build fortifications around the eleventh century. It originally belonged to the Roman Church and then to the Tuscolani Counts, the Counts of Segni, the Sforza, the Barberini and finally to the Pamphili.
