Fonte Nova is located in Lower Sabina area along the Via Nomentana, one of the main access road to the city of Rome in the east along the course of the Tiber and Aniene rivers. In this area, even before Rome, many small centres were founded by the Sabines and transformed by the Romans. In the middle ages, then, these settlements became small ‘castrum’ (fortified farms) or castles as evidenced by numerous remains of watch towers that are located throughout the countryside.
